Esther 2:21-3:7

Scripture: Esther 2:21-3:7
Message: Esther Part 2: Is God Fair and Just?
Speaker: Pastor Tyler Graftaas

As we began our journey through the story of Esther we talked about how the author establishes a contrast between the kingdom of God, where God benevolently rules so that we might become all He has called us to be, and the kingdom of Earth, ruled by power and self-interest leaving the weak and powerless in its wake. This week we will skip Esther’s coronation and look at the historical tension that existed between God’s people and their enemies at the time of Esther; Mordecai is ignored despite saving the king from assassination, and Haman is elevated to second in command for no apparent reason. To add insult to injury, because of his hate for Mordecai, Haman devises a plan to exterminate all Jews everywhere. This hardly seems fair or just and elicits the age-old question, “why do bad things happen to good people?" or the obverse, "why do good things happen to bad people?"
