“Fear not!” in the midst of uncertainty and hopelessness, these are the words heavenly messengers bring to God’s people throughout the Bible. And yet hearing these words and trusting them are very different things. Is it possible to have no fear in the midst of the turbulent political and economic times we live in, not to mention the challenges of aging, relationships, child-rearing, schooling, and more? Is it possible to live in hope, not just for eternity, but for today despite the difficulties we face?
As we step into the season of Advent let us hear the words of the angel Gabriel to Zechariah and Elizabeth, who gave them hope in the present because of what God was about to do throughout eternity!
