James 3:1-12
A Restless Evil with Deadly Poison on Top

Although hyperbolic, after talking about the importance of integrity, James hits the nail on the head when he addresses one of the biggest and most difficult issues facing any relationship - the use of words. Although James is speaking to the church, and specifically its leaders, the point has a universal relevance to anyone with the ability to speak: watch your mouth, it is more powerful than you can imagine and more difficult to control than any other part of your body. James uses the strongest of descriptions to call the tongue “...a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” This Sunday we are going to explore the power of words to build up or to destroy, which, according to James, is a lesson all of us need to keep learning.
