Transforming Witness

Revelation 11:1-13

The trumpets start blowing, the cosmos are pummelled and humanity is tortured. Read Revelation 8 and 9, it is vivid, disturbing, and unrelenting. But then, like the breaking of the seals in Revelation 6, there is an interlude before the final trumpet sounds. The interlude is filled with all sorts of Old Testament imagery, as well as resurrection! When the seventh trump blast rings out, John is once again reminded of the throne where voices are saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.” But what does this mean for us? How are we to hear and respond to what John saw? Is this a raging battle beyond our influence and control?

After his resurrection, Jesus said, “make disciples of all nations…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” The vision of Revelation 11 is an encouragement to fulfill that calling, it is an encouragement to become a transforming witness...
