John 6:16-30

John 6:16-30 “Driving Force” Following the feeding of the 5000, the disciples of Jesus went down to the sea of Galilee, got in a boat, and set off back to Capernaum. While crossing the lake a violent wind picks up and the waters grow rough. As seasoned fisherman this is nothing new or overly scary, they know to keep rowing. However, when a figure appears before them walking on water, they become terrified. What is it that strikes fear in their eyes rather than awe at someone who does not sink? The next day the crowd regathers around Jesus, seemingly inquiring as to his whereabouts because they want to follow him. Jesus calls their bluff and reveals their true selfish motives. Why would they pretend to be interested in what Jesus has to say rather than just asking him for some more food to eat? We are all motivated by something. Something motivates us to get out of bed in the morning or to keep pressing the snooze button. Something drives us to act kind or rude, caring or indifferent. Sometimes we care and sometimes we couldn’t care less. What is it that drives you and I to do the things we do? Does it matter, as long as we’re getting the job done? As we look at the 5th sign that John gives in order that we might believe that Jesus is the Messiah, we will be looking at what Jesus has to say about our driving force. Pastor Tyler
